Prompt
This year features two very exciting and inspiring prompts. After a two-hour research session within our team, we decided to pursue the first prompt.
Prompt #1
🌟
Problem
Research
Our team focused on the issues of loneliness and communication faced by elderly individuals. We conducted research on the frequency of communication between young Americans and their elderly family members.
Pain Points
Through the research, our group chose to take a different approach by targeting the young generation as the solution to the problem of loneliness among the elderly. We aim to address the lack of companionship and communication from the young generation to elderly and conduct 3 pain points
Personas
As we target the younger generation as our solution, our team developed two personas: Jia, who represents the younger generation, and Grandpa Kong, who represents the elderly family members.
Final Product
GenBridge
A video call platform that utilizes AI learning techniques and augmented reality to enhance connections between the elderly and the younger generation. Through immersive storytelling, interactive activities, and shared experiences, making every call more meaningful and engaging.
Solution #1
Setting up preferable reminders for calling with your family
Users can set up personalized reminders to call their family based on preferences and calling habits. This helps ensure consistent communication, making it easier to stay connected.
Solution #2
Topics of the Day
Users would receive suggested conversation topics to share with your family based on your preferences prior to the call.
Solution #3
Immersive experience when calling
Our team developed a dual-interface solution for calling to meet the needs of both target users as the young generation and the elderly individuals.

Reflection
I’m very lucky to have joined such a talented team to develop a project that I am truly proud of. Although I had never met Adam and Jia before this competition, we spent 25 hours together brainstorming, designing, and practicing our pitch at school, without a moment of sleep. I now see my fellow teammates to be the greatest gift of this competition. The key learnings I learned from after working with them are storytelling and questioning.
💡
Storytelling
Our team members have amazing storytelling skills. With only 4 minutes for the final pitch, it is extremely important to not only explain our idea clearly but also to engage the audience and convey the narrative effectively. This competition has taught me a comprehensive approach to storytelling and has reinforced the significance of storytelling in presenting ideas.
💡
Questioning
I also learned that it is important to engage in debate and critically analyze ideas at the very beginning of the brainstorming session. I appreciated that none of us were afraid to speak up, and we began questioning our assumptions to make sure we came up with the best idea that could both solve the problem and appeal to the audience.
Thanks to my teammates Adam, Jia, and Doris for being such an amazing team and for becoming my work buddies, friends, and teachers. We gave our best for this competition and proudly winning 2nd place!
